What you will do

To provide management and administration of the RNZAF Base Ohakea Communications Security (COMSEC) account, involving the training, distribution and monitoring of National and Allied COMSEC keying material, and policies and procedures for Ohakea-based RNZAF Force Elements (FEs) and other RNZAF units.

This will involve

  • The issue, receipt and transfer of secure communications equipment between NZDF organisations.

  • Management, accountability and oversight of the secure communications equipment account.

  • Ensuring adherence and compliance with NZDF secure communications equipment policy.

What we need

To be successful in this role, you will have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, excellent planning and organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to complete additional NZDF training will also be vital.

An understanding of NZDF orders, procedures and organisational structure, previous experience in NZDF communications operations, and previous experience with Communications Security accounting is highly desirable.

You must be able to meet the requirement to gain Top Secret security clearance.

RNZAF No. 230 (Mission Support) Squadron is responsible for providing fused intelligence product to NZDF organisations and Government departments. The Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Flight provides the RNZAF with strategic and tactical voice and data communications support to military air operations and deployments.

Total remuneration is $51,944 to $64,166 inclusive of the 4% employer superannuation contribution.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.


If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
