Working at the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) provides the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of New Zealanders.

Service Delivery and Operations is a major public face of DIA.  Whether we're helping to register births, deaths or marriages, or assisting in passport applications, community grants or civil union and name change registrations, we're dedicated to serving the needs of New Zealanders.

  • Te Ara Manaaki is an innovative, transformative programme to reimagine and redesign the way in which DIA's identity and life event services are delivered - making it easier for people to access these services, and those provided by other agencies and organisations.
  • We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Privacy Advisor to join the Policy & Privacy team, who provide a range of services to ensure privacy by design is embedded in the programme and all new services and developments treat New Zealanders' personal information with respect and care.  This team is also redesigning the authorising environment around information sharing, working extensively with other government agencies and non-government organisations.
  • You'll be a flexible team player excited by the prospect of dealing with complex challenges within in a dynamic environment.

The work involves building understanding and capability around privacy by design across the programme, providing ad hoc and formal advice to inform procurement, risk analysis, design and delivery of new services and assurance processes.

This team is also redesigning the authorising environment around information sharing, working extensively with other government agencies and non-government organisations.  This role provides an excellent opportunity for someone keen to work in the cross-government space and to address the challenge of enabling better use of personal information held by DIA to improve services to New Zealanders and to partner agencies, while ensuring robust privacy protection and transparency.

You'll be an experienced privacy professional, familiar with privacy legislation and processes, confident in dealing with diverse and senior stakeholders, and willing to work collaboratively to find innovative solutions to complex problems.  .  You'll be comfortable with working flexibly within Policy & Privacy team's work programme - and occasionally on other agreed work within Te Ara Manaaki.  Familiarity with project and programme environments with technology and process redesign elements would be an advantage.

If you want to join a team of smart, committed people who are doing innovative work to make a difference to Aotearoa and its people, then be sure to get in touch.
