Job Description

We are looking for an energetic Manager to lead our Inshore Fisheries Central Team one of three regional inshore teams reporting to the manager of inshore fisheries.  This is a unique role that will allow you to take accountability to ensure that New Zealand's inshore fisheries resources are managed efficiently and effectively.

Your responsibility will be create and lead a high performing team focused on achieving its goals and those of fisheries New Zealand.  The team will be responsible for development of advice on management of our inshore fisheries, including; ensuring sustainability of harvesting, allocation of harvesting between sectors and managing environmental impacts of fishing.

Fisheries New Zealand's focus is on balancing the rights and interests of commercial, recreational, and customary fishers to ensure our fisheries are sustainable – now and for future generations. 

Established to enhance the focus on this valuable taonga, Fisheries New Zealand delivers regulatory functions to manage New Zealand's fisheries resources and marine environment, fisheries science and research, monitoring and verification, and aquaculture development.

Bring your post graduate tertiary qualification in resource management, economics or related field along with your leadership skills, attention to detail and your enjoyment of working in a fast moving, busy environment where no two days are the same. 


Key Skills / Educational Requirements

  • Experience managing staff, administrative, financial and personnel systems and processes; and in developing and implementing support systems within government organisations.
  • Knowledge of strategic and business planning processes.
  • Experience in analysing technical issues and making business decisions with financial impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and to maintain positive working relationships with the people at all levels in an organisation with the Minister and across the public service as well as tangata whenua and with stakeholders.
