  • Location: Multi Agency Centre, Great South Road Manukau.
  • Term:  Secondment for six months/ Fixed term/ Secondment for six months
  • Reporting to:  Site Manager South Auckland

The Child Protection Protocol governs how Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children and New Zealand Police partner to jointly investigate allegations of abuse.  Working together we ensure the safety and wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi whilst these investigations are undertaken. 


This role has been established to test the advantages of completing the consultation and Joint investigation planning at the Safety Assessment Meeting jointly attended by the Police, Probation, and the District Health Board.


As the Child Protection Protocol Supervisor for South Auckland, you will be based at the Multi Agency Centre in Manukau, working closely with a team of detectives and interviewers.  You will play a critical role linking the Multi Agency Centre's team with Oranga Tamariki's site based staff to ensure co-ordination of joint investigation plans.  You will also be contributing to new ways of working in the child and family harm sector as a participant in the Counties Manukau Whangaia Nga Pa Harakeke interagency model.


This is a supervisor role, but experienced senior practitioners ready for next level leadership opportunities may be considered. 


Key tasks will include:


  • Completing the initial tasks of the Oranga Tamariki supervisor  as set out in the Child Protection Protocol (CPP)
  • Participation in daily interagency meetings, agreeing with Police cases which meet the CPP protocol and in conjunction with Oranga Tamariki Sites agree the joint investigation plan
  • Ensure a strong focus on the safety and wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi during the investigation process
  • Liaison with sites to support communication and collaboration between Police, Oranga Tamariki and other agencies throughout the course of investigations
  • Developing partnering relationships with other agencies which support the best interests of our rangatahi and tamariki
  • Regularly report on and Identify and escalate matters to senior Oranga Tamariki staff
  • Contribute to review and evaluation of role and process to inform future service delivery
