About the role

The Spinal Unit at Burwood Hospital is a leading rehabilitation centre and it has opportunities for both experienced Registered & Enrolled Nurses to join their team in the Spinal Unit. We have a variety of shift options available including full time part time and casual.

A patient's journey in the spinal unit is complex and challenging with highs and lows, so we need you to be positive and passionate about rehabilitation to ensure our patients reach their full potential. You'll need excellent communication skills, flexible thinking and an interest in innovative and emerging therapies.

A good sense of humour, the ability to develop rapport with patients and colleagues, and exceptional team work will go a long way in this environment and ensure you assist patients overcome multi-faceted challenges.

You'll have a strong rehabilitation focus, a desire to learn and an understanding of the social needs and backgrounds of patients and their families/Whanau. The unit offers social rostering, however, flexibility is still required as you will be expected to be available for all shifts. Professional development is encouraged on the unit and supported by Nurse Educators.

You'll be an experienced RN or EN with the ability to work well under pressure within a multidisciplinary team, have excellent communication skills and flexibility to work rotating, rostered shifts. Professional development is supported and you will have opportunities to attend training.

Skills and experience:

  • You will be an experienced Registered or Enrolled Nurse with a current NZ practicing certificate
  • You will be a confident practitioner with exceptional patient assessment skills
  • The ability to cover shifts on all of our clinical wards. Sound clinical skills and knowledge, confidence and ability to work effectively with a wide range of people are imperative to this role
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage a wide variety of people, is paramount in this role
