About the role

This is a unique opportunity for a talented executive leader to provide strategic leadership to Immigration New Zealand, the largest service delivery group within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. 

The Deputy Chief Executive (DCE), Immigration is a key public sector appointment and carries responsibilities which have a direct influence on the economy, as well as social and humanitarian sectors. This is broad portfolio with a focus on border security, management and settlement of refugees, the marketing and attraction of skilled migrants and management of  large visa processing operations.

We're looking for a credible, high energy leader with extensive experience leading large, complex service delivery operations and significant change management programmes. You'll be outcomes driven and have proven success influencing at all levels of an organisation, across agencies and with Ministers and senior stakeholders.  

You'll be able to manage complex streams of work and competing priorities with ease and you'll also be a confident communicator, comfortable with the high level of public interest in this role.

As DCE Immigration you'll be a key member of and contributor to the Senior Leadership Team, working collaboratively to make sure organisational strategy drives outcomes for all of MBIE.  

We are looking for a highly successful leader who has:

  • Significant experience at a very senior executive level in the State sector or comparable experience in a relevant business environment
  • A reputation for leading complex, large and highly visible service delivery functions and delivering results
  • Demonstrated success leading significant organisational and operational change programmes
  • Sophisticated and proven strategic leadership experience at a senior level in a large and complex organisation
  • Demonstrated success leading major change across a distributed business (ideally globally)
  • Demonstrated political acumen and ability to work with Ministers.
