Job Description

Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding career where you will make a tangible contribution to the security of New Zealand?

Do you want to work with a group of people who are passionate about protecting and advancing New Zealand's safety and security?

The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) is recruiting for a PSR Engagement and Assurance Manager within the Protective Security Directorate of the NZSIS. The PSR Team sits within a wider group responsible for lifting the protective security capability of government.

We are looking for a suitably skilled and experienced individual to lead a talented and high performing PSR Engagement team providing protective security advice and guidance to a diverse range of government agencies, and increasingly into the private sector. The PSR Engagement and Assurance Manager is responsible at the operational level for managing the day to day delivery of the engagement programme.

As the PSR Engagement and Assurance Manager, you will lead a team that is already successfully implementing the PSR (www.protectivesecurity.govt.nz) through a proactive programme of agency engagement and support. You will regularly engage with the Ministers' offices, chief executives, protective security leaders, practitioners, private service providers, and subject matter experts. Just as important, you will also build effective “value add” working relationships across NZIC.

To be successful in the role you will require previous experience as a leading protective security practitioner, or you will have other experience working in security and risk management.  You will be expected to have at least a working knowledge of the PSR. You will already have demonstrated management and coaching experience. Ideally, you will also possess the following qualities:

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to influence thinking and behaviour, and the ability to gain buy-in from external stakeholders.
  • Experience building and maintaining positive and productive working relationships with senior agency staff and security practitioners
  • Proven background in operational risk management and guidance
  • An awareness of, and interest in, current affairs and issues that affect New Zealand on a domestic and international level
  • An understanding of New Zealand Government processes
  • A suitable tertiary qualification or formal training in a relevant field or discipline.

If you fit the above and are looking for a fulfilling career where you will be encouraged to excel then we are keen to hear from you.

A position description can be found attached here.
