Job Description

Vacancy number: CSSR9448

Bring your talents to the fore in this complex, dynamic and multi-faceted leadership position as we work to reduce reoffending and create lasting change.  We have dedicated and passionate teams that run our Corrections facilities who are united by our goal of making a positive difference in the lives of offenders, their families and the community.

The role of Prison Director presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to showcase their drive for excellence and accountability, while ensuring the smooth running of one of our Southern Prisons.

This critical management role will ensure optimal delivery of all prison related services and continuous improvement initiatives whilst balancing care, security and rehabilitation imperatives. With the scope and accountability to drive performance you will be responsible for the leadership of all day to day operational functions and the pro-active identification and management of risk across all facets of the operation to promote the safety of all those in your care.

The development of effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders will be key to your success as you encourage teamwork and co-operation between all parties. The journey of a prisoner does not stop at the prison gates so a focus on ensuring prisoners can reach their potential on release is also a key aspect of the Director's role, in conjunction with Community Corrections leaders and other partners.

Your ability to promote staff development, reward good performance and to engage your team in raising capability is paramount. This will contribute to the overall success of the prison site, Otago District and the wider Southern region.

By demonstrating visible leadership in all aspects of your role you will have the courage, passion, determination to deliver outstanding results, raise the bar for quality practice and ensure statutory obligations are met in line with Departmental policy.

We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced manager with;

  • Proven operational, financial and business systems experience at a management level
  • Exceptional communication skills, initiative and leadership qualities
  • The courage and determination to succeed at both a strategic and operational level
  • A focus on innovation, continuous improvement and best practice implementation
  • The commitment to develop staff and improve performance
  • A high level of understanding and anticipation of political and reputational risk
  • An in-depth knowledge of risk management processes and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity of the Treaty of Waitangi and an understanding of the factors impacting on offender rehabilitation & reintegration.

Please ensure your CV and cover letter address the key competences and responsibilities of the role. All applications must be submitted online before the closing date of Sunday 3rd June 2018.
