Permanent, Full-time

Remuneration range: $56,211.00 - $76,051.00

Whangarei Police are seeking applications from suitably experienced people for the role of Custody Officer. We are looking for a team player who can contribute to the safe and efficient running of our custodial facility. The position involves working with other Police staff to receive and process a variety of arrests from throughout the Northland District.


This is a shift work position, working a progressive roster of 2 x early shifts, 2 x late shifts, 2 x night shifts followed by 4 rostered days off. The roster covers weekends and public holidays.


Skills - you will be able to:

  • Deal with stressful situations
  • Follow standard operating procedures
  • Provide clear and concise written and verbal reports
  • Recognise and respond to individual risks, differences and diversity


Experience - you will have:

  • Previous experience in a Policing or custody role
  • An ability to recognise risk and implement plans to minimise the potential for harm



  • We will provide training to get the right applicant certified and sworn in as an Authorised Officer
  • The training includes a full First Aid Course, driving assessment, theory and law classes and physical defensive tactics
  • You will need to be physically fit, as passing the Police Physical Competency Test is a requirement
