TEC's mission is to ensure New Zealand's future success. Our vision is that all New Zealanders are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need for life long success. The TEC is the government funder of tertiary education in New Zealand. It has three key functions: invest, monitor and provide information. From July 2017, it also became the government's lead career agency with Careers New Zealand merged into the TEC. It invests $3 billion annually in the tertiary education system.

The Principal Advisor Risk Management is a new role, initially concerned with refining and implementing our Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) for TEC.  The role of ERM is ensuring that TEC:

  • Instils a strong risk culture and embeds positive risk management awareness to deliver on its business strategy (doing the right things)
  • Risks (events and opportunities) are effectively managed (doing things right)
  • develops and maintains operational best practice (policy, procedure and process) delivering quality risk information and reporting enabling and supporting informed decision making (managing our risk).

The role is fixed term as the intent is to embed the ERMF, together with the Executive Leadership Team, into the business so that it becomes part of the management and governance culture.
