Under the Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994, the Commissioner is required to promote and protect the rights of consumers of Health and Disability services. One of the ways the Commissioner exercises his educative function is to make appropriate recommendations to health and disability service providers for improvements in service.

We are looking for a talented analyst to assist with recommendations.  Day to day, this involves reviewing information, providing advice on robust recommendations,  ensuring compliance with recommendations made by the Health and Disability Commissioner and communicating with the relevant parties. The successful candidate will carry out data and trend analysis, participate in internal and external education as well as maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as registration authorities.

This exciting role has lots of variety and offers the successful applicant the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team. It is a challenging role that requires an individual who has:

  • Strong data and trend analysis skills supported by the ability to carry out independent research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – with a recognised ability to communicate with people from a wide cross-section of the community
  • Significant health/disability sector knowledge with an appropriate health focussed degree and/or background in quality improvement and error analysis
  • An enquiring mind with a strong ability to express complex ideas in a logical and easy to understand way
  • A recognised ability to review, summarise and comprehend large amounts of information
  • The ability to apply legal precedents, follow legal advice and understand and incorporate legal concepts and advice into correspondence
  • The ability to articulate and able to explain recommendations clearly and rationally
  • The ability to work unsupervised, managing a large and time pressured workload in an organised and professional manner
  • An in-depth understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures, with a well-rounded knowledge of the New Zealand health and disability sector
  • Initiative, particularly when problem-solving and making pragmatic decisions
  • Team player skills – empathic and supportive of colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to use IT including databases and word processing packages. Good data entry and typing skills are desirable
