About the role

The Child and Family Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital is a 16 bed, specialist regional (South Island) in patient facility for children/adolescents under 18 years of age who require Specialist Mental Health Services care. Children and adolescents who have severe psychiatric, emotional behavioural or developmental disorders are able to be assessed and/or treated within our service and there is also provision for family members to live-in, to enable them to be part of their child's treatment programme.

We are looking for an experienced Specialist Mental Health Nurse's to join and become part of an energetic, dynamic, innovative and hardworking multi-disciplinary team of health professionals.

There are opportunities to be involved in recreational and leisure activities as part of your daily routine and no two days are ever the same in this fast paced, fun loving team.

Working

  • 0.94 FTE permanent - rostered shifts to suit service requirements
  • 0.94 FTE - fixed term for one year, rostered shifts to suit service requirements

Skills and experience

  • Experienced Registered Nurse, Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC
  • Motivated and flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in a large multidisciplinary team and autonomously
  • Previous experience working with children/adolescents is preferred
  • Genuine interest in the mental health of children/adolescents and their family/whanau
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, support and empathy for your young clients
  • Ability to build effective relationships with children and young adults
