Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity to become a Research Engineer with the Measurement Standards Laboratory (MSL) team working in a fast-paced, customer oriented, team laboratory environment.

MSL is an international leader in a number of areas of measurement including; measurement of fundamental constants; state of the art measurement techniques; realisations of physical measurement standards; and improved industrial measurement techniques.

As a Research Engineer you will be involved and become an expert in the calibration and testing for New Zealand industry.

You will be responsible for the calibration, testing and development of length measuring systems and instruments for NZ. These include time scales, laser interferometers, electronic distance meters, gauge blocks and high accuracy coordinate measuring machines.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A BEng, BSc or other technical qualification in engineering and/or physics
  • Exposure to mechanical and electrical engineering
  • A methodical and conscientious approach with attention to detail
  • The ability to understand and interpret data, strong data analysis skills, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly
  • Skills in mechanical, electronic and optical design, instrument control and programming
  • Good 3D awareness (eg: CAD, CNC, CMM)
