Job Description

What you will do

As Digital Channel Manager you will lead the Digital Channels Team in the delivery of excellent digital communications and engagement on NZDF's digital channels. This twelve month fixed-term role is focused on building this new team and developing the team members to create a high performing digital channel management function within our public affairs unit.
You will take an active role leading the team in managing internal communications channels, websites, social media, and coordinate channel management activities across the Digital Channels Team to ensure channels are kept up to date, on message, responsive and engaging. You will work closely with the Public Affairs team to plan and source content for NZDF's official digital channels, and you will lead the operational approach to moderation and management of NZDF's social media channels.
You will ensure the team provides expert guidance to administrators of approved social channels outside of DPA, including training on new features and sharing best practise. You will ensure stakeholders within Defence Public Affairs and NZDF are kept aware of online activity and any risks arising.
You will be involved in the support and planning of social communications providing expert advice; and will drive improvement across channels by providing considered feedback on social content and performance. You will also support the Digital Manager in the development and evolution of the Public Affairs Strategy, Digital Strategy and the Digital Channel Operating Model with the provision of expert and up to date advice. NZDF already has a unique spread of channels and you will support the development of the future channel mix.

You will have expert management and mentoring skills experience and know how to positively motivate and drive your team to success.  You possess sound judgement and can deliver expert advice across a large organisation with a diverse range of staff and levels. You will have exceptional relationship building skills and enjoy strengthening and maintaining your professional partnerships.  
 
You understand web and digital technologies and will be a social media expert experienced in a range of systems. You possess a special ability to connect with your audience and understand and anticipate their needs. You have professional experience writing content for social media and managing online communities. Your understanding of corporate communications, change communications and public relations concepts and processes as well as issues and reputation management principles will ensure your success in this role.

This position is part of the Defence Public Affairs Unit, whose purpose is to directly enhance the reputation and identity of the NZDF internally and externally. Through the provision of creative services, digital expertise, marketing, media relations, and business partnership, the Unit provides for the integration of all NZDF public affairs activity.

The remuneration band for this position is $90,326 to $111,579 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
