Intelligence Analyst: Financial Intelligence Unit

New Zealand Police

Police National Headquarters, Wellington

Permanent position

Salary range $55,927.00 - $72,377.00

The New Zealand Police have a permanent position available for an Intelligence Analyst based within the New Zealand Police Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). The FIU provides financial intelligence relating to suspicious transactions, money laundering, the financing of terrorism and other serious offences. Its services are a response to the functions and powers set out in the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 (AML/CFT Act).

As an analyst you will be required to produce intelligence products that enable understanding of the criminal environment as it relates to money laundering, terrorist financing, and transnational crime. As well as using that understanding to support Police disruption of organised and transnational crime, you will engage with partner agencies across government to facilitate investigations into tax evasion, border protection, immigration and benefit fraud.

 

Skills – You will have to:

1. Demonstrate analytical thinking.

2. Apply analytical techniques to interpret information for intelligence analysis

3. Develop and apply intelligence processes and principles

4. Research, analyse, critically examine crime and criminality, and write intelligence products to assist decision makers

5. Manage competing demands and high workload at times.

6. Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external)

7. Use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to develop a high standard of reports/presentations.

 

Experience - you will have:

1. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to develop a high standard of reports/presentations.

2. Experience writing clear, succinct and useful documents.

3. Experience in using a variety of tools and techniques to understand a problem, develop solutions and effectively influence and inform decision making.

4. Experience presenting (written and verbal) complex issues clearly to a range of audiences.

Additional Information

A New Zealand Diploma in Intelligence Analysis or equivalent is preferred. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will be required to complete this qualification within 12 months of appointment.

 

Successful applicant must reside in Wellington

Applicants must be a NZ or Australian citizen, or a NZ resident, or have a valid NZ work visa to apply for this position

computer skills testing (word and excel) prior to interview

psychometric assessment (verbal, abstract and numeric reasoning)

a comprehension and writing test at interview
