Whitireia Community Polytechnic (Whitireia) and Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) formed a strategic partnership in 2012 with the objective of providing the best quality, relevant learning experience that we can for our students. For us it's about putting learners first, transforming lives and learning together.

The People Services group is responsible for leading the way in creating people-related systems, processes and practices so that we have the workplace capabilities to create an environment in which staff and students can thrive in.

The HR Advisors work across Whitireia and WelTec at campuses in Wellington in an account management model. This role's primary location is the Porirua Campus. However, you will be required to work at other campuses and location across the Wellington region.

About the role

The Senior HR Advisor role is responsible for delivering high quality advice and support to managers and staff. Reporting to the People Services Manager in Wellington, you will work collaboratively with the wider People Services team.

We are currently engaged in various initiatives to align the systems and practices of WelTec and Whitireia. In this role there will be opportunity for you to gain exposure to multiple aspects of HR and organisation wide initiatives. This role is a great way to grow your career.

About you

We need someone in this role who has a strong generalist background, a positive attitude and initiative. With your general business acumen and problem solving skills your advice will be solutions focused.

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • experience in an HR Advisor role with sound working knowledge of HR practices and New Zealand Employment legislation
  • working knowledge of remuneration and promotion practices. You will need strong excel skills as this role will take a lead role in the annual remuneration reviews and promotions process
  • effective communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide variety of people at all levels of an organisation
  • a self-starter attitude with the ability to manage multiple priorities and be adaptable in a changing environment
  • a flexible and adaptable working style, a positive attitude and willingness to work individually and a team player working with others on key projects
  • a tertiary qualification /experience in Human Resources and experience in the tertiary education sector are preferred but not essential.
