Job Description

  • Are you looking for a role that will have a real impact on protecting the farming community and New Zealand from a damaging weed?
  • Are relationship management and community engagement fundamentally important to you?
  • Do you want a role with flexible hours, where you have control over your schedule?

The Velvetleaf Programme is run by Biosecurity New Zealand - Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in collaboration with Regional Councils and industry organisations. The programme is looking for community outreach professionals to engage with and support farmers, growers and rural contractors to manage velvetleaf.

To be successful in this role you need to have a high level of influencing skills, have good relationship management skills, be a good communicator and have interpersonal savvy. We also need you to be proactive; have a passion for New Zealand's primary sector and be able to pick up a work programme and run with it.

There are three roles to be filled, two based in the South Island (Canterbury, Otago or Southland) and one in the North Island (Waikato). There is some seasonality in the work with a busy period over summer when the weed is growing. These roles are part time with approximately 15-20 hours per week during winter and 25-35 hours per weeks during summer, and this may be open to further negotiation.

There will be travel regionally and also to MPI offices in Wellington on occasion.
