Remuneration range: $74,082.00 - $100,228.00

The Asset Recovery Unit's primary roles are to deny criminals the opportunity to benefit from their offending or the ability to re-invest in criminal activity.  Police do this through forfeiture of their "ill-gotten gains" and making sure that crime really doesn't pay.  International trends among Law Enforcement Agencies indicate that recovering assets is often more successful and may be a bigger deterrent than the criminal prosecution.  That trend is being mirrored in New Zealand.

 

The Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009 is a relatively new piece of legislation based on civil court processes.  You will be encouraged to push the boundaries, use your initiative and explore ways of using the Act to recover criminal gains.

You will be part of a successful team based in Wellington. Nationally ARU are recruiting 19 new staff. Wellington has received 5 of those positions, with one assigned to Forensic Accountant. You will be joining a team consisting of three Forensic Accountants, one current Financial Analyst and several investigators.

 

ARU are looking for a Financial Analystwho can participate in reactive and proactive investigations and financial analysis. Work together with investigation teams both within Police and from external partner agencies, prepare and execute production orders, and interact with members of the local and international financial business community.

 

Internal and external partnerships are a key focus and the successful applicant can expect to be heavily involved in investigations associated with multiple departments within Police and our external partners.

 

Skills - you will need to be able to:

  • Prepare and present (written and verbal) financial analytical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Proficient in utilising Excel and other financial analysis tools and experience with income determination methods
  • Manage time effectively to complete multiple files and meet deadlines
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of all information and decisions
  • Conduct inquiries and secure evidence relevant to investigations and provide recommendations to advance investigations
  • Ability to prepare and present evidence at court
  • Ability to work within a team environment and be a self-motivated worker.
  • Display behaviours consistent with the core values of New Zealand Police and contribute towards the strategic goals of the organisation

 

Experiences:

  • Have experience in financial analysis to reconstruct financial accounts
  • Ability to present financial data in clear and concise manner
  • Display the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Special Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or work experience
