Job Description

Location: Wiri, South Auckland
Vacancy number: CSNR10014

We are looking for highly skilled social workers to help build women's strength and resilience while in prison. This will give women the strategies to create better futures for themselves, their children and wider whanau/family.

Women face many complexities, which can contribute significantly to their offending, and re-offending. The complexities of their lives do not stop when they enter prison and can place additional pressures on women which are difficult to manage. These concerns are wide-ranging, from lack of control, influence or understanding about what is happening in their children's lives and difficulties with the custody of their children to being pregnant in prison or having particular needs because they are young or identify as transgender.  These issues can be a barrier for women to engage effectively in their rehabilitation, and wider prison life.

We are seeking to appoint social workers in each of our three women's prisons across the country to support and enhance the wellbeing of women in prison, particularly mothers and women who are vulnerable.

To be successful in applying for this position you will:

  • be a registered social worker;
  • have experience working with, and enjoy working with, women;
  • have experience working effectively across cultures, especially with Maori women; and
  • have an ability to build rapport in sometimes difficult situations.

As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team working to support the women, you will bring your skills and experience to be innovative in a prison environment, and find opportunities to improve the support for women, and their children in this unique setting.

All applications must be submitted online via our recruitment system.

Applications close Friday, 28 September 2018.
