Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established Elective and National Services team as a Senior Advisor - Funding and Monitoring.  The Electives and National Services team delivers a range of initiatives that improve outcomes for people accessing elective services and designated national services.


The Senior Advisor will support DHBs to achieve the programme goals, including improvements in access, equity, timeliness, quality, and experience for people accessing care. The role will have a particular focus on:

  • relationship management, performance analysis, funding and monitoring of DHBs

  • reporting and communication with key stakeholders

  • contributing to planning and contract negotiations

  • contributing to analysis and engaging closely with DHBs and other Ministry teams on the development and implementation of measurement from  national data collection systems

  • and assisting in the implementation, monitoring and administration of initiatives to support improved access to elective services.


This position will be assigned to the Electives and National Services team, but may be required to work across other areas as government strategies and priorities change. 


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proven success in collecting, interpreting and reporting information for various audiences

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in plain language

  • Proven ability to quickly develop and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, in a variety of settings

  • A strong customer focus in both analytical approach to problems, communication and strategic context

  • Ability to be self-directing, including being able to prioritise work, manage risk and complete tasks successfully, whilst working comfortably in a busy environment

  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, and to contribute flexibly across work priorities

  • Experience in a public health or other social service provider organisation


You must demonstrate an understanding and awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi, and understand the role of the Ministry and health sector in reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes for Māori.
