This is a key role leading a team to drive change, think creatively and progress innovative solutions!

With rehabilitation of offenders being our key focus, a “One Team” approach will be paramount in ensuring our offenders remain at the centre of our efforts and victims at the centre of our concern.

The is a senior role reporting into the Prison Director and will challenge you to think differently, be solution focused, creative and innovative and drive high performance and accountability across our team.

To be successful in this position you will need to be flexible, agile and thrive on influencing change – at the same time you will need to be comfortable to manage operational requirements in a sometimes very challenging environment! This role will see you performing in various areas of the business which include Operational Support & Movements, Security, Custodial Services and Residential. 

The development of effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders focused on operating a safe and secure site that is a place of Industry, Treatment and Learning. The ability to build relationships will be key to your success as you encourage teamwork and collaboration with support services on site.

Collaboration will be key to partner with support services on site including Offender Employment, Interventions & Programmes and supporting positive outcomes for those in our care.

We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced people leader with;


  • In depth knowledge of legislation, policy, and compliance requirements governing Corrections operations;
  • Proven operational, financial and business systems experience at a senior level;
  • Exceptional communication skills, initiative and leadership qualities;
  • The courage and determination to influence and succeed at both a strategic and operational level.
  • A focus on innovation, continuous improvement and best practice implementation, championing regional and national initiatives
  • The commitment to develop staff and improve performance in a change environment
  • A high level of understanding and anticipation of political and reputational risk
  • Familiarity of the Treaty of Waitangi and an understanding of the factors impacting on offender rehabilitation & reintegration.
