Job Description

What you will do

This role involves collating, verifying, manipulating and administering geospatial and imagery datasets and ensuring the data is available to GNZ, NZDF, other government agencies and international partners.  The data technician will be part of the Data and Data Analytics Team which is responsible for providing GEOINT data for operational support as requested, maintaining and implementing GEOINT data services across the NZDF enterprise network as well as developing and promoting a data analytic capability.

What we need

We are ideally seeking a person with some practical experience in an Imagery/GIS discipline who is able to assess and interpret geospatial data. However you may also be a recent graduate in Geospatial Sciences or equivalent looking to start your career.

Being able to liaise and communicate effectively with a wide and diverse target audience is key in this role. You have excellent interpersonal skills and value the relationships you build within the team, contributing to the team's success is important to you.

Your technical mind ensures you have great attention to detail and accuracy in the work you do.  You have adaptive thinking skills and being responsive ensures a customer focussed approach. We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic, committed and flexible.

This role offers you the opportunity to support Defence operations and to work across all of government. Regular domestic travel is a pre requisite of the role.

GEOINT New Zealand's role is to provide imagery and geospatial intelligence to NZDF, supporting policy, planning, operations and training in order to meet NZDF outputs. GNZ is also the national and international lead for Geospatial Intelligence in New Zealand, providing imagery and geospatial intelligence to government departments and other customers.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
 
Higher level Security Clearance
*       most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten years, OR
*       is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
 
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
