Fixed Term Enterprise Architect - Enterprise Architecture Team – Stats NZ – Wellington or Christchurch

Stats NZ is moving from a single-model data architecture that focuses on physical storage to a multi-model data architecture that supports an open-access environment where data and other information assets can be shared securely with other agencies and New Zealanders in general.  This role is responsible for spreading the vision within Stats NZ and informing and contributing to policy and best practice at both a public sector and international level.  In Stats NZ Enterprise Architecture is responsible for the business, process, data and information layers of our overall Enterprise Architecture.  As one of our Enterprise Architects, you'll play an integral role in building a holistic overview and roadmap of Stats NZ's strategic implementation.  The Enterprise Architecture team is located within the Data System Leadership business unit.

For this role, as well as a strong Enterprise Architecture background, preference will be given to those who can demonstrate solid data modelling understanding and some experience across a wide range of data architectures (including traditional, canonical, semantic and graph) and an are able to articulate how important modern data architecture techniques are in the modern data world.

Role Specification

  • Experienced in translating strategy into implementable roadmaps, with options.
  • Ability to interpret and present complex information in a manner focussed on the target audience.
  • Experienced in delivering results through relationships.
  • Being an agent for change.
  • Demonstrate design thinking expertise, focussing on customer experience and retaining a focus on the ‘people behind the data'.
  • Demonstrate understanding of sustainability, architectural and technical debt.
  • Understanding of Stats NZ's strategic context, the political environment and the evolving New Zealand data ecosystem(preference).
  • Seven plus years of combined IT and architecture work experience with a minimum of five years as a data (or equivalent) architect (ideally in a medium to large organisation). (preference)
  • Broad exposure to complex data, information and technology environments (preference)
  • Experience in both operational uses of data and analytical uses of data (preference)
