Job Description

Pacific Development Group (PDG)

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT)

This role is an exciting opportunity to help shape New Zealand's engagement with Pacific countries on labour mobility. This is a new position created to respond to the growing interest and demand for labour market opportunities in the Pacific region and New Zealand, including as a result of the PACER Plus trade agreement and its associated labour mobility agreement.

The Senior Adviser – Labour Mobility will provide policy advice and analysis on initiatives that maximise the contribution of labour mobility to sustainable development in the Pacific region.  You will work with a broad range of teams and partners, including the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Pacific island government agencies, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and other domestic and international development agencies.

Policy experience and understanding of labour mobility and the links between migration and development outcomes are essential. Experience in, and understanding of, developing countries' context would be an advantage.

We are seeking applicants with a proven ability to build successful relationships and work effectively in complex and/or ambiguous situations.  The successful applicant will have excellent skills in written and oral communication, analysis, problem-solving and negotiation, be a self-starter and enjoy working with teams to turn policy into sound practices.
