Senior Advisor Youth Development

 

  • Champion best practice youth development
  • Provide specialist youth engagement advice
  • Permanent role, Wellington based

 

The Ministry of Youth Development, responsible to the Minister for Youth, is a stand-alone Ministry within the Ministry of Social Development. The Ministry of Youth Development works with and for all young people in New Zealand aged between 12 and 24 years old.  We partner with others to enable, fund and promote youth development.

 

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Advisor, Youth Development to join our team in Wellington, to help us lead the way in increasing youth engagement at all levels.

 

You will be a champion for high quality youth development policy and practice within the team, across other government departments, and with our partners in the community. You will have a particular focus on providing specialist advice on young people's engagement and participation in governance and decision-making.    

 

We are looking for an articulate and innovative Senior Advisor who has:

 

  • Experience as a youth development practitioner
  • A thorough understanding of youth development principles and practice
  • Particular expertise in youth participation, youth engagement, involving young people in decision-making 
  • Proven ability to provide high quality, balanced analysis and advice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including highly developed formal writing skills
  • Working knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the implications of these for the work of the Ministry
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Great ability to build and maintain relationships
