Health Legal


We're looking for a Solicitor in the early stages of their career to join the Health Legal team at the Ministry of Health.  


As a Solicitor within Health Legal you will advise on complex and interesting health sector issues and be involved in the policy process (including legislative development), legislative compliance and statutory interpretation. 


You will undertake and oversee a broad range of corporate and commercial work including drafting and advising on contracts (including IT arrangements) and tender documents, as well as handling an exciting range of public and administrative law challenges.


The position is a permanent full time position based in Wellington, reporting to the Chief Legal Advisor.  It will suit a Solicitor, who is able to manage multiple issues and problems.


The experience needed is:

  • Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand         
  • Core competencies of knowledge, relationship management, communication and problem solving and achievement;
  • Familiarity with government processes, machinery of government and working with legislation
  • Preferably experience in commercial and contract law in a public sector environment and /or experience in medical law (including medico-legal)


At least 12 months post admission experience as a barrister and solicitor is preferred, but not essential.
