Job Description

Senior Policy Advisor II

Justice Team: Policy and Partnerships Group

New Zealand Police

Salary Range $87,605.00 - $157,895.00

Job Requisition ID 7803

Our mission is to make New Zealand the world's safest country.

Would you like the opportunity to shape and develop prevention and enforcement policies and strategies and build your inter-agency policy experience?

Can you use your knowledge of the policy process and relationships management to influence and lead others across Police and its wider sector partners?

We are looking for an experienced Senior Policy Adviser who will be focussed on developing and delivering on an ambitious work programme to progress legislation and policies that will either be led by Police or require our input.

You will work with our sector and community partners as well as internal policing groups to aid in the development and implementation of innovative prevention and enforcement policies and solutions that will help reduce crime and enhance community safety.

Police has challenging performance targets to ensure we deliver real results. Meeting these targets will not be easy. But we're here to tackle the difficult issues and we're committed to making our communities safer.

The Policy and Partnerships Group works with colleagues' right across policing and with our sector partners to deliver public policy change that will take us towards our mission of being the safest country.  Our group provides advice on a wide range of policy issues, from vulnerable children, youth development and family harm, through serious criminal offending and gangs, to drug policy, control of firearms, criminal justice legislation, road and transport safety, national security, emergency management and terrorism.

The diversity of our business makes for a fascinating and challenging range of policy opportunities in the sectors we span - the social, transport, justice, border control and national security sectors. Our work genuinely effects New Zealanders every day.

This role, while reporting to the manager of the Justice Policy Team, will at times also involve tasks across all our teams.  The work will be as diverse as legislative amendments, supporting select committees, preparing briefings for the Minister of Police and Police senior leadership, and membership of project teams on a variety of matters of concern to Police.

We may also have opportunities for fixed term roles at this level to the end of June 2019, so if you are interested in a short term opportunity as well, or instead of a permanent role, please apply and be clear about which term of role you are seeking in the cover letter.

We may draw on this recruitment process to fill the position in other teams in the Policy Group.
