Job Description

The New Zealand Customs Service protects and promotes New Zealand through world class border management. We promote New Zealand's international trade, collect Crown revenue, and enforce the law by identifying and seizing prohibited imports and exports. We also make sure that lawful travellers and items can move across our border as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Our Māori name - Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa - translates as "the authority that screens and protects New Zealand".

The New Zealand Customs Service is seeking to appoint a Receptionist to support the Auckland Corporate Services team. The position is permanent part time hours, working Monday - Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm.

The Corporate Services team is part of the wider Finance, Strategy and Performance Group and is responsible for providing sustainable, efficient and effective corporate services within Customs.

Key to this role will be:

  • Carrying out Reception tasks and duties as allocated including:
    • Welcoming on-site visitors, facilitating their arrival and departure
    • Monitoring building access and issuing passes as required
    • Arranging taxis for staff and visitors as requested
    • Answering telephone calls, redirecting or taking and delivering messages as required
    • Travel, accommodation and rental car bookings
    • Providing accurate travel advice to travellers
    • Purchasing goods and services
    • Mail, courier, uniform  and identity card distributions
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

As the Receptionist, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality Reception services and administrative functions as required by Customs. Ideally you'll have previous experience in a customer-focussed role where your professional attitude, calm manner and sound judgement ensure quality standards are maintained.

Applicants are required to be Permanent Residents or Citizens of New Zealand with 5 years checkable history.  The successful applicant will be required to undergo a drug test and Customs Security Clearance. Applicants are required to have a current NZ Drivers licence (full drivers licence is preferred).
