About our team

The Business Technology and Information Services Directorate is part of the Corporate Services Branch within MPI.  BTIS's vision is ‘making business easier and better' and our horizons remain to ensure we deliver to business outcomes as outlined in MPIs Information Technology Strategy.

To achieve our vision, BTIS has to be an exceptional service provider, a highly effective team, a creative innovator, change enabler and a responsive integrator between MPI, government, suppliers and industry.

The Analytics team within the Information and Insights group in BTIS provides advice and assistance to staff performing analytic and research functions throughout the Ministry about methods, tools and approaches for analysis.  The team works across all kinds of information and data so building strength as a multi-disciplinary approach is a cornerstone of our strategy.  The Ministry includes a wide variety of fascinating areas, and therefore data, including fisheries, trade, biosecurity / border management, food safety, forestry, agriculture, and economic and regional development.

 

About the role

This role works closely with Ministry staff involved in a variety of information retrieval and analysis activities; from compliance activities to litigation and Official Information Act requests.  It supports them by planning and executing well-structured, meticulous searches of our information to meet our obligations to provide high-quality, complete information to the New Zealand public.

The successful applicant will have strong information management and discovery expertise and be locate content from across the enterprise.  The methodology employed to complete those searches itself has to be robust to support the credibility of the results.  You will support the effective use the Ministry's information and ECM services reinforcing the finding and using of business content.

The role will also support others (particularly business users) to conduct their own searches, with standardized frameworks and toolsets provided by the Ministry.  It is part of a multidisciplinary team made up of staff with business analysis skills as well as advanced analytics, and applied analysis and research backgrounds.

 

About you

You have an Information Management, analytical or research background.  You will have sound experience of ECM solutions and information management.  At the same time you're curious and want to keep learning about new business activities and how information and data supports them.

You will be:

  • a keen listener
  • someone who enjoys working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • able to construct search approaches and techniques
  • someone with an eye for detail while keeping the big picture in mind
  • methodical and able to deliver high quality well documented outputs
  • confident with core information management and discovery principles, tools and methods
  • passionate about continuous improvement

 

You might be:

  • an experienced ECM practitioner looking to broaden your skills and experience
  • someone with a research background
  • a research librarian with litigation or official information request experience
