As a social worker you will help to change the lives of our young people and their whānau, helping them to achieve to their full potential.


Here at our Panmure site, we have an opportunity for Social Workers to join our Care and Protection team.


Our Care and Protection Social Workers at Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children work alongside community partners to bring about positive outcomes for our children, young people and their whānau.


A big part of your day will be working with children and young people and ensuring their voices are heard, completing assessments, reports and formal Family Court documents, creating plans, completing referrals, participating in family group conferences and partnering with other agencies, stakeholders and the community to get the best outcomes.


Your ability to overcome barriers and skill to drive positive outcomes will put you in good stead for this challenging and hugely rewarding role.

To be successful in this rewarding position, you will need:


  • A qualification in social work recognised by the Social Work Registration Board(SWRB).
  • SWRB registration with current APC or working towards gaining registration.
  • Exceptional listening skills – hear what the child or young person has to say.
  • Proven ability to quickly build rapport with tamariki and rangatahi.
  • A high degree of both verbal and written communication skills (you will need to write court reports).
  • A commitment to bi-cultural practice and a culturally responsive approach (a good understanding of Tikanga Māori advantageous).
  • A full clean valid driver licence.
