Job Description

The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, consumer and regulatory agency. Our vision is that New Zealanders are better off.

Our Regulation Branch is looking for a Senior Analyst to join their Performance Analysis team and contribute to analysis which promotes greater understanding of the performance of natural monopolies which are essential to everyday life and the economy. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, based in our Wellington office.

The role

The Regulation Branch aims to ensure the performance of regulated suppliers and markets produces long-term benefits for New Zealand consumers.

You will be developing and applying economic regulation as well as analysingthe performance of regulated businesses in New Zealand. You will support the development of regulatory rules and process, setting of revenue limits, sector reviews, data analysis and reporting.

What you will have

We are looking for someone who is able to clearly articulate the rationale behind their analysis and make practical focussed recommendations that will withstand rigorous scrutiny.

You will also have:

  • a degree in an analytical field (e.g. economics, law, finance, engineering)
  • the ability to think, write and communicate clearly
  • a passion for analysing information and developing industry knowledge
  • an understanding of economic principles and the ability to interpret legislation
  • experience working within a project management framework as either the technical lead or a project manager; and
  • excellent relationship management skills.

Ideally you will have a background in one of the regulated sectors such as electricity, gas, airports and/or dairy.
