Manager Ministerial Support, (Wellington) - Permanent, Full Time

 

 

About our team

The Ministerial Support team manages the provision of information to both to the public and Ministers' offices, and also provides high quality support to the Chief Executive and Leadership Team. 

 

The team does this by compiling responses to Official Information Act Requests, providing draft responses for correspondence received by Ministers or the Chief Executive, dealing with requests for information from private secretaries, and by providing advice around these areas to other staff in the Ministry.

This is a high-profile position, leading a group that is committed to managing a fast-paced workload in a way that increases both transparency and the public's trust and confidence in the Ministry. You will be given a mandate to lead in an organisation that places a high value on the work of your group.

 

The Manager Ministerial Support provides leadership of the Ministerial service functions and assists the Chief Executive and Ministers to satisfy the public accountability interest in the Ministry's activities.  

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • The management of responses to all Ministerial and Parliamentary questions and OIA requests.
  • The management of the correspondence for the Chief Executive including statutory reporting.
  • The provision of high quality advice on strategies and issues that relate to the Ministry's reputation and its accountability to Parliament and the public.
  • Supporting the Ministry and the Minister, by managing the flow of documentation between the Ministry and Ministers.
  • The provision of advice to the General Manager Public, Ministerial and Executive Services.
  • Proactively identifying and managing organisational risks.

 

 Skills and experience

 You will have:

  • Great ‘nous' and a proven experience in identifying issues and risks and devising appropriate solutions.
  • A track record of developing good judgement and a sharp eye in the people you lead.
  • An ability to build and lead high performing teams.
  • An in depth knowledge of New Zealand government structures and process.
  • Great relationship management skills.
  • Top juggling skills – you'll be at home managing a range of competing demands.
