Job Description

Permanent - Auckland or Wellington

Are you passionate about Linux, and want to take that energy into a new and exciting environment?  Do you feel like you could be doing more with your skills? Do you want the opportunity to expand those skills into other areas of IT technology? Are you interested in being part of an organisation that is committed to the security and well-being of New Zealand?

If the answer to these questions is yes, you need to seriously consider working for us at our Wellington branch.

What you'll bring to the position:

  • A passion for Linux and IT including system admin skills.
  • Relevant work experience and hopefully some formal training like a tertiary      qualification.
  • Enthusiasm for solving complex IT problems.
  • Enjoyment working in a team environment.

What you get from us:

  • Unique and extremely interesting work that you don't get to do anywhere else.
  • Career and training opportunities
  • Competitive salary appropriate to qualifications and experience.
  • Private medical insurance and vision care benefits.
  • You'll never have to take your work home with you.

Some of the skills that the successful applicant will have will include Linux system administration, networking, scripting and programming, working with virtualisation technologies, databases, web servers, puppet, foreman, complex multi-server processing systems, storage area networks, cloud and web technologies, contain technologies, and interoperability (even if you have to DIY from time to time). Familiarity with Continuous Integration, test tools, DevOps, and Ansible would also be valuable.

Did you read anything about supporting Windows based systems above? No you didn't. We're sure you can and that's a useful skill, but that won't be what makes us hire you.

You will join a technology centric team who collectively do amazing things with computing and electronic technology, but you should also be comfortable solving complex problems on your own. You know that Raspberry Pi isn't something your grandmother bakes, Python is more than just a big snake and you are quite happy to roll up your sleeves and bust out your strace skills when the going gets tough.

If you want to work with a purpose at the heart of New Zealand's national security, make your application now.  We believe that diversity is our first line of defence and encourage all parts of the community to consider a career with us.

Salary range:

Level 1 - $68,316 - $102,474

Level 2 - $77,711 - $116,567

Level 3 - $90,366 - $135,548
