Job Description

The NZSIS are looking for an Open Source Specialist to join their Data Analytics team. The Open Source Specialist is responsible for supporting open source delivery at NZSIS including training and support to others within the NZSIS. You will be involved in representing NZSIS interests to develop NZIC and wider NZ government open source expertise.

As part of the Data Analytics team, the Open Source Specialist will also be involved with the development and operational management across data analytic capabilities within the NZSIS. This challenging and rewarding role requires you to work in a tight-knit team of dedicated professionals operating across a variety of capabilities and areas of expertise.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent technical experience in a related field is desirable (e.g. computer science, data science, data analytics)
  • A minimum two years' experience in the New Zealand Intelligence Community preferably with at least some of this experience in the NZSIS
  • Experience using open source for tactical operations/ investigations and/or experience in a relevant technical role e.g. digital forensics
  • A sound understanding of the use of open source and other forms of digital intelligence in meeting intelligence requirements
  • Familiarity with the role of the NZSIS in the New Zealand Intelligence Community, the New Zealand Government and the NZ government open source expertise

The ability to demonstrate the following is highly desirable:

  • Experience representing New Zealand at conferences and engaging with external partners as a practitioner/subject matter expert
  • Experience in dealing with customers and international partners with a proven ability to develop and maintain relationships for mutual benefit
  • Experience delivering training on open source or other related technical areas

Salary range: $68,316 - $102,474 circa.

Please note: To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
