Job Description

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them, now and in the future.

The Information Communication and Technology Service (ICTS) group based at National Headquarters in Wellington is structured in five functional areas: ICT Strategy and Programme, Technology and Support Services, Data and Spatial Intelligence (DSI), Business Solutions and National Telecommunications.

The Data and Spatial Intelligence unit provides enterprise operational and business data management and system administration, technical support, technology solutions delivery, along with national intelligence services to Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and the Spatial Intelligence Analyst is a key member of this team.

We are seeking applications for a 12-month fixed-term Spatial Intelligence Analyst, as part of the Data and Spatial Intelligence unit based at NHQ, Wellington. This is an exciting role within Fire and Emergency New Zealand providing effective GIS services, systems administration and technology solutions delivery supporting frontline and back office operations. The role focuses on:

  • providing GIS services to Fire and Emergency New Zealand through the effective management and enhancement of national enterprise level geographic information systems, integrated spatial applications and databases
  • providing analytical, modelling, intelligence and spatial data services to National Headquarters, Fire and Emergency New Zealand Operations and external customers as required, including national risk and resource modelling services and support
  • developing and delivering integrated enterprise level GIS applications, data models and system enhancements to meet changing and widening Fire and Emergency New Zealand business requirements, enabling integration with other key Fire and Emergency New Zealand information systems, including Command and Control, USAR, SMS, ICAD, SOP and Operational Deployment applications.

To be successful in this role you will need experience in enterprise level geographic information systems, integrated GIS applications and databases, plus a relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Information Systems or related technical field. You will also be a skilled communicator, with experience of collaborating effectively with a range of colleagues and stakeholders in order to achieve quality outcomes.

This is a full-time position for 12 months to December 2019. The remuneration range for the role is $86,000 to $96,000 gross per annum.
