Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children works with the most at risk tamariki and rangatahi in New Zealand.  Oranga Tamariki works to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people.   In everything we do, the wellbeing and best-interests of children are paramount.  The voices of tamariki and rangatahi underpin the design and operation of our services. 


Hillcrest home is a facility providing both residential and day programmes for up to eight high risk young male offenders or young males at risk of offending. Programs cover aggression replacement, sports and fitness, waka ama, social skills, education, life skills, music, moral reasoning, tikanga and more.

This role works as part of a wider team consisting of Oranga Tamariki staff, cultural advisors and professionals with specialist skills, such as drug and alcohol counselors, psychologists, mental health providers.

To be considered you will need to have previous experience working with young people with complex needs, and a passion to help young people realise their full potential.


To be successful in this position, you will need to be able to:


  • Inspire and engage positively with young people.
  • Think creatively to find solutions.
  • Maintain a good level of physical fitness.
  • Deal with difficult behaviour while remaining calm and resilient.


You will have:


  • Excellent computer, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (desirable).
  • A current NZ working visa and a good command of written and spoken English.
  • A current full 'clean' driver licence.
