Job Description

The Treasury is the government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders. We have an opportunity for a talented and high achieving Senior Analyst to join our Macroeconomic & Fiscal Policy team. In this role, you will have a significant opportunity to influence and help shape the macroeconomic policy agenda, including providing advice directly to the Minister of Finance.

Our team is leading a number of high profile pieces of work and this role provides an opportunity to lead or contribute to a number of projects, depending on the skills of the successful applicant.

Our key policy areas are:

  • Long-term fiscal statement - the Treasury is required to produce a long-term fiscal statement at least every four years. This role will contribute to a cross-Treasury project team that will be responsible for producing the next long-term fiscal statement
  • Fiscal strategy - formulating and delivering fiscal policy advice to the Minister of Finance to inform Budget decisions

This role would suit you if you're a Senior Analyst with a tertiary qualification and experience in developing and providing economic, financial or regulatory policy advice. The ideal candidate would have experience in macroeconomic or fiscal policy advice and an understanding of the key issues facing the major developed economies and small open economies. Specific knowledge of the New Zealand economy is not necessary but would be an advantage. The successful candidate will already have a significant breadth and depth of at least 5 years' analytical experience.

You may have some or all of the following:
