About Housing New Zealand

Housing New Zealand Corporation is a Crown agent that provides housing services for people in need. It isn't just about getting a roof over people's heads - we also work closely with others to ensure our tenants have access to good support services.

Our Values - Kotahitanga - One Team

Housing New Zealand has important work to do and our aspirations are big. We believe that people do their best within an environment of trust, care, contribution, humility and learning. We also do our best when we take personal responsibility to achieve our shared vision and maintain a working environment we are proud of.

The values that drive us are:

  • we trust, each other and share ownership
  • we care, about each other as people
  • everyone's contribution, matters
  • we are humble and genuine
  • we continually learn and innovate.

The role

This role reports to the National Maintenance and Upgrade Manager and is accountable for the delivery of responsive and routine repairs for the Wellington and South Island Housing New Zealand property portfolio through the management of the commercial relationships that exist between Housing New Zealand and external contracted parties, including, but not limited to, the performance-based maintenance contracts (PBMC). The MRM will manage a number of complex commercial relationships and lead a large and geographically diverse team to ensure that maintenance is delivered to agreed standards and that customer satisfaction targets are achieved.

Please note - regarding expectations of travel: Due to the geographical spread of both staff and Performance Based Maintenance Contractors coverage in this region, the ideal candidate will be primarily located in either Wellington (preferred) or Christchurch as a base location. The ideal candidate will also be expected to spend a minimum of two consecutive days per week in the non-base location.

To be successful in this role you will ideally have the following:

  • A relevant tertiary/management qualification or equivalent experience in a operational/delivery role or commercial management, ideally in the building maintenance or construction industry
  • Commercial and Contract Management certification at Practitioner level (or similar)
  • Property maintenance management experience in a high volume environment
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a large and geographically dispersed team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven risk assessment and mitigation planning ability
