About the Ministry for Women

The Ministry for Women, Te Minitatanga mō ngā Wāhine is the Government's principal advisor on improving the lives of New Zealand women and girls. Our vision is that Aotearoa New Zealand is a great place to be a woman or girl, wāhine Māori succeed as Māori, and gender is not a barrier to well-being.

We are focused on achieving three strategic outcomes:

  • The contribution of all women and girls is valued
  • All women and girls are financially secure and can fully participate and thrive
  • All women and girls are free from all forms of violence and harassment

We lead work that improves outcomes for all women and girls increases our leadership and impact, delivers excellence and grows our reputation.

About the opportunity

The Nominations Service works to ensure that suitably qualified women are identified and considered for appointment by Ministers to state sector boards and committees.

The Ministry has refreshed its Nominations Service, providing an opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Advisor to lead the day-to-day operational delivery of the Nominations Service.

The successful candidate will undertake research to help find suitable board and committee candidates; they will assist with nominations for the New Zealand Honours process; and they will be required to provide input for, and assist with, ministerial servicing. Included will also be the need to undertake the annual gender stock take of state sector boards and committees and maintain relationships with the Nominations Service key stakeholders.

Knowledge of a nominations process and data analytics, and an understanding of digital operational and communications platforms, would be an advantage. This is a key role in the Ministry's Nominations Service team, working alongside the Nominations Manager and one other Senior Advisor.

What this role offers

We are a small government agency and operate a 'one-Ministry' culture where everyone pitches in and contributes to all of our work programme. This role is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to work in a small ministry and gain exposure to working closely with both the Ministry's Leadership team and the Minister's office, as well as working across the Ministry's priority areas on a range of issues that impact New Zealand women.

The Ministry selects on capability not gender, and welcomes applications from candidates who have/can demonstrate:

  • knowledge of the nominations process in a state sector environment
  • proven experience in developing and maintaining influential stakeholder relationships
  • proven experience working in a public sector environment and having interacted with a Minister or Minister's office at a senior level and other government agencies
  • demonstrated experience working at a senior level or leading a project
  • proven experience writing Ministerial briefings, reports, and other correspondence
  • understanding of data and the presentation of statistics
  • highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or suitable relevant work experience.

The salary range for this position is $80,600-120,800, with a mid-point of $100,700.

This is a fixed-term role for six months.
