Job Description

Be part of a significant government initiative that will drive infrastructure transformation across the entire industry and ultimately affect all New Zealanders

  • Unique opportunity to apply your infrastructure expertise in a future-focused role
  • Improve infrastructure for generations to come and drive economic growth & wellbeing
  • Be part of the solution to tackle infrastructure deficit and challenges

The Government has announced that a "new independent entity will be established so New Zealand gets the quality infrastructure investment it needs to improve long-term economic performance and social wellbeing". To support this, the Treasury has established an Interim Infrastructure Transaction Unit (ITU) which, by late 2019, will be incorporated into the new independent Infrastructure Body.

We are seeking infrastructure project advisors, with a range of levels of experience, who will be responsible for providing advice on the planning, procurement and delivery of major infrastructure projects. These roles will transition to the new independent Infrastructure Body once it is established in late 2019.

The ITU is the government's lead advisor and centre of expertise for the procurement and delivery of major infrastructure projects. The Treasury will also lead the development of policy in partnership with key agencies and prepare advice for Ministers on the detailed design of the independent Infrastructure Body.

The Role

  • Provide commercial and infrastructure procurement advice and support on major infrastructure projects
  • Play a lead role in the structuring, negotiation and execution of major infrastructure projects
  • Provide infrastructure procurement policy support including best practice approaches, policy advice, guidance material and support in the management of contracts
  • Assist central and local government agencies in the development of infrastructure procurement expertise
  • Pro-actively engage and build trusted relationships with a broad range of stakeholders across the public and private sectors, including project directors and senior executives
  • Support the wider infrastructure sector by promoting opportunities to participate in the delivery of major infrastructure

About You

Our multi-disciplinary team requires talented and experienced professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. You may be currently employed in a commercial, advisory or government procurement role on large infrastructure projects, or have other relevant engineering, legal, finance, banking, construction or M&A experience. You will be considered an accomplished specialist with a high intellectual curiosity who enjoys working in a complex and interesting environment.

You will have:

  • Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts clearly, succinctly and with influence
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Highly developed critical thinking and strong financial analysis skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. engineering, accounting, finance, commerce/business or law)

This is a major undertaking and a real opportunity to be part of transformational change that will enable New Zealand to meet its infrastructure challenges, seize its opportunities and ensure the best possible outcomes for New Zealanders.

Applications close: Wednesday 12 December. All applications must be made online. Flexible work options available.
