Te Uru Rākau is a new branded business unit established within the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and is leading the Government's renewed focus on forestry.  Comprising teams with diverse responsibilities spanning operational oversight through to strategic policy implementation we provide the focus and direction needed to strengthen and grow the forestry sector in New Zealand.

About our Team:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Junior and/or Senior Programme Implementation Adviser in our Programme Implementation team within the Spatial, Forestry and Land Management Directorate.  In this technical role you will deliver operational advice, implement and manage forestry and sustainable land management activities.

Spatial, Forestry and Land Management is responsible for implementing policy initiatives to support sustainable land management, the use of our forestry resources and New Zealand's climate change responsibilities. The Programme Implementation team covers the length of the country – supporting landowners from Northland to Southland in accessing MPI's forestry grants.

About the Role:

The Key responsibilities for the role are (but are not limited to):-

  • Work closely with all stakeholders, promote and advise on sustainable programmes.
  • Assist with the Erosion Control Funding Programme's (East Coast) implementation and operations including advocacy and management of stakeholder relationships, field inspections, payment approvals and other operational aspects of the scheme's administration.
  • Assist with monitoring of Afforestation Grant Scheme contracts.
  • Assist with approvals of planted or reversion areas relating to Te Uru Rakau's land management activities.
  • Assist with any field procedures under the Emissions Trading Scheme applications.
  • Provide feedback of sustainable programmes on stakeholder perspectives into MPI work e.g. policy development and service design.
  • Provide backup, support and advice to technical (GIS), Indigenous Forestry and compliance teams if required.

Skills and Experience:

We're after someone that is passionate about trees, forestry and land management.  The successful applicant will be experienced in managing and delivering projects, strong written communication skills, good time-management skills, excellent relationship management and workshop facilitation skills. You will also need to have a good level of fitness, enjoy the outdoors and be equally capable of working alone or part of a team.
