The department of engineering and architectural studies operates out of new Kahukura Building at Ara's Madras street campus on the edge of the Christchurch CBD.  The department is home to about 700 full time equivalent students, about a quarter of which are international.  The department delivers level 5 to level 7 qualifications including the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering ( ) and the New Zealand Bachelor of Engineering Technology ( ).


The Role

This role is a teaching role which focuses on developing and enhancing the Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills of our engineering and CAD    diploma students. CAD skills are key to an engineering designer's technical literacy. This role ranges from teaching CAD skills to those who are just starting their journey to supporting those who need to apply CAD skills to solving industry based design problems.  Your day to day activities and attitude will help promote the esteem of Ara's design engineering and CAD programmes.

This role makes a significant contribution to the mechanical engineering discipline. Ara is a key provider in New Zealand for engineering diplomas and three year degrees which are recognized internationally under the Dublin and Sydney Accords ( ) and accredited by Engineering New Zealand ( ).   • Deliver courses in the CAD and engineering programmes
  • Develop and maintain course materials and assessments
  • Assess students
  • Setting a high standard for student engagement and professionalism



  • A degree or diploma qualification in Engineering
  • Current industry/discipline knowledge
  • Current CAD experience in Inventor or Soldiworks
  • Vision, innovation and a commitment to facilitating own and others' learning
  • Time management skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently administer, organise and co‐ordinate activities and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication
