Salary range: $119,000.00 - $161,000.00

The NZ Police Information and Communications Technology Service Centre are seeking to appoint an experienced Operations Manager for the Core Systems Team (Technology Operations Group) based at the Royal New Zealand Police College, Porirua. This position has been created to cover the appointment of the current manager in an acting role for 12 months. This position is for a 12 month Fixed term contract.


The Police ICT Service Centre is here to save police officers time, enhance their safety and contribute to making New Zealand a safer community. To prevent crime and crashes, Police needs information delivered to the front line that is reliable and able to be accessed anywhere, anytime. Making this happen is the daily work of our people in the ICT Service Centre. With our operational colleagues and partners we create world leading solutions in mobile, computer aided dispatch, intelligence, networks and security. We are looking for people that have the technical expertise but most importantly share our vision for innovation, partnerships and being part of a positive work environment.


This role is responsible for providing management of the Core Systems team. Core Systems consists of both Unix/Linux and Database staff, sixteen in total. The 24/7 environments being maintained covers critical systems that support New Zealand operational policing.


This is a dynamic and challenging position, and the successful applicant will have several years of ICT operational management experience and will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Proven experience in operational management and service delivery in a large organisation
  • Substantiated understanding of ITIL processes
  • Experience in management of enterprise sized database operations teams
  • Experience in management of enterprise sized Unix/Linux operations teams
  • Experience leading and mentoring staff within a technical and agile service
  • Ability to write both technical and operational level documentation clearly and precisely.


The following is not required but would be advantageous:

  • Licencing experience of IBM, Oracle, Microsoft and Red Hat products
  • Technical background in either Unix/Linux or databases


The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, reside in the Wellington area, and will be required to undergo a full reference and security check prior to any offer of employment.
