Do you want to work in an organisation that is “Growing and protecting New Zealand” and focussed on the success of the primary industries for the benefit of all New Zealanders?

The Ministry for Primary Industries has an exciting fixed-term opportunity for a full-time Technician/Senior Technician to join its Bacteriology and Aquatic Animal Diseases Team. MPI works with the primary industries across agricultural, aquaculture, fisheries, trade, food, biosecurity and environmental issues. The role offers variety and unique opportunities to develop your skills within a large and dynamic organisation.

The Animal Health Laboratory located at Wallaceville is New Zealand's reference centre for exotic, new and emerging terrestrial and aquatic animal diseases and contains both PC2 and PC3+ laboratory facilities.  As a Technician or Senior Technician within the Bacteriology and Aquatic Animal Diseases Team you will play a major role in diagnostic testing processes within our laboratory including employing bacterial culture and molecular testing techniques to support import/export testing, testing for exotic disease investigations and responses, capability development projects, surveillance, quality assurance and test validation.  You will also contribute to the daily maintenance and running of the laboratory.

The Technician/Senior Technician post is a fixed-term full-time position to cover a period of maternity leave until June 2019.  This role would suit applicants with experience in diagnostic microbiology or veterinary microbiology laboratories. You will be an excellent team player, a highly effective communicator, adaptable and able to learn quickly. The level of appointment will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
