Job Description

We are responsible for paying around 90,000 teachers and support staff in around 2,500 schools every fortnight. We work with around 6,700 payroll administrators.  We pay around $4.6 billion per annum.

The Tax Team Adviser is responsible for providing Education Payroll Limited (EPL) and its clients with high quality professional analysis, requirements development, testing, and production operational support services.

The Tax Team is responsible for the correction of tax deductions during the Pay Period, for correcting tax ‘Year to Date' records for employees affected by Overpayments or Stop Pays and, for filing the Employer Monthly Schedule every month. In addition, there is business as usual ‘pay period to pay period' work that need to be delivered on time at high quality.

We are seeking to hire a Tax Team Advisor based in Wellington for a full time, fixed term role for 18 to 24 months. You will be helping through the challenges of planning, tax compliance and maintaining effective relationships with the tax authorities.

Your key accountabilities:

  • Provide business analysis expertise by working with the business through elicitation of business needs to document detailed requirements
  • Understand client organisation's direction, structure and requirements
  • Prepare requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations set with client and recognises when issues/events may affect delivery
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders of portfolio assigned to them to enhance knowledge of their business activities
  • Share knowledge in the Business Analysis area of speciality with team members
  • Proactively initiates, develops and maintains effective working relationships with team members 

Although the role is not phone based you must be willing to speak directly to the Schools and/or Employees and IR as necessary.

To be successful in this position you will be able to tick the following boxes:

  • Must have at least 5 or more years HR or payroll experience
  • Numerical and verbal reasoning
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience
  • Successful experience of analysing complex issues and developing effective options for action
  • Well developed and applied attention to detail
  • Managing the process of gathering, analysing, storing and disseminating detailed information in a user friendly format
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at both a general business and technical level
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and customers
  • Demonstrated operational knowledge of payroll practices, processes, and technology
  • Be a team player with the ability to work under pressure with specific deadline
  • Energy, enthusiasm and motivation
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand
