Job Description

At ACC, our work makes a difference for all New Zealanders. We positively impact New Zealanders' quality of life by reducing the impact and incidence of injury. Our teams work across ACC and externally to ensure that the ACC scheme is effective in achieving this goal both today and into the future.

About the role

We are looking for Advisors and Senior Advisors to join our Policy and Research teams.

We have the following permanent roles available:

  • Advisor - Policy
  • Advisor and Senior Advisor - Research

Our goal of our Strategy, Policy and Research (SPR) group is to use the combined disciplinary power of strategy development, policy advice and research to drive and influence our organisational direction.

Our Policy team provides advice to the ACC Minister, Board and Executive on the future design of the ACC scheme and its implementation. Our team provides a unique opportunity to develop strategic policy advice on the future of the ACC scheme and its role in broader health and welfare sectors, and to see that advice get implemented on the ground and make a difference for the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. If you want to grow your policy career, an ability to understand policy and operational perspectives is increasingly essential and we can provide this for you.

Our Research and Evaluation team provides evidence to inform the design, delivery and effectiveness of injury prevention and rehabilitation programmes. Our team is also responsible for delivering a strategic research agenda, focused on answering enduring and emerging research questions to improve outcomes for our customers.

As a Senior Advisor, you will be responsible for shaping and leading a programme of work within your team. A Senior Advisor role will provide you with the opportunity to play a thought leadership role in the team, across ACC and externally, as well as the opportunity to coach and lead the work of Advisors in the team.

As an Advisor, you will work across the team to develop a breadth of experience on the issues that matter for ACC, leading pieces of work that support decision making by the ACC Board, Senior Management and Ministers.

What we're looking for

You will be a driven individual who is determined to succeed. You will have a demonstrated ability to think in structured way about complex issues, will have excellent analytical skills and be comfortable engaging with people at a senior level.

You will have a background in or an understanding of policy development or research disciplines and will be passionate about delivering robust, relevant advice to decision makers.

For policy applicants, you will have a good understanding of public policy and ideally have familiarity with the machinery of government with some exposure to interpreting legislation.

For research applicants, you will have a relevant research and/or evaluation background, and be interested in the practical application of research findings and providing business advice on how research findings can be used.

It goes without saying that you'll have excellent relationship management and advisory skills; allowing you to present information in a meaningful way and form strong, credible relationships across ACC and externally with other agencies, stakeholders and the Minister.

You will be motivated by being part of a high performing team and committed to playing a role in the team's continuous development and improvement.
