The Ministry of Youth Development, responsible to the Minister for Youth, is a stand-alone Ministry within the Ministry of Social Development. The Ministry of Youth Development works with and for all young people in New Zealand aged between 12 and 24 years old.  We partner with others to enable, fund and promote youth development.

We have an exciting career opportunity for an Advisor, Youth Development to join our team in Wellington. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is passionate about making a difference for young people. The role is ideally suited to someone who has recently completed a tertiary qualification in youth development or a related field.  

You will bring your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of youth development to your work, and will be a champion for high quality youth development practice within the team, across other government departments, and with our partners in the community.

We are looking for an articulate and enthusiastic Advisor who:

  • has an excellent understanding of youth development principles and practice
  • is experienced in youth engagement, including through Social Media, and has great ability to build and maintain relationships 
  • is well organised
  • has experience in planning and running events
  • has excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • has working knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the implications of these for the work of the Ministry
