Opportunity to make a difference - working with the New Zealand charitable sector

Kia ora koutou and warm greetings

Working at the Department of Internal Affairs, you ll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of New Zealanders.

In Charities Services we promote trust and confidence in charities, encourage good governance, support charities' efficiency and effectiveness and require charities to comply with their obligations under the law. We register and monitor charities and build sector capability to comply with the law by providing guidance material, online and print resources.

We have two roles available, one permanent and one 12 month fixed term.

Along with your demonstrated analytical ability, we need you to have:

  • experience in a regulatory or legal role
  • ability to interpret legislation and case law and make sound judgements in complex situations
  • experience in mentoring and supporting a team s performance
  • ability to communicate very effectively, both orally and in writing, in a clear purposeful and confident manner
  • experience managing risk while working in a complex environment
  • a focus on self-development and the ability to accept feedback
  • a customer service focus

As one of our Senior Registration Analysts, your key role would be to:

  • analyse information provided by applicants for charities registration to determine whether they meet the requirements of the Charities Act, including leading complex charitable purpose assessments
  • provide high level thinking to lift and build the Registration Team s charities law capability including developing resources, providing reviews and mentoring
  • provide recommendations to the independent Charities Registration Board
  • look for opportunities to improve efficiency and services for, and compliance by, our customers and actively take on-board changes to processes and policies

An understanding for the charities sector and charities law is desirable but not essential.  If you have the key experience and skills for this role, come and join our team.

If you have this experience and expertise, come and join our team.

Charities Services is part of the Department of Internal Affairs Te Tari Taiwhenua. Further information is on our websites www.charities.govt.nz and www.dia.govt.nz.
