Job Description

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to raise living standards for New Zealanders.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Analyst to join our Skills, Employment, and Enterprise team. The team is responsible for Treasury's Labour Market, Immigration, Tertiary Education, Science and Innovation, Competition, Industrial Relations, Economic Development, and Business Growth policy advice.

Our Team

This is an opportunity to be part of a large multi-disciplinary team that provides policy advice to Government on a range of issues across New Zealand's economy. This position is one of two Senior Analysts who lead Competition, Science and Innovation, Economic Development and Business Growth policy in the team. Working closely with the Treasury's Economic Strategy team the role requires advising agencies and Ministers on the business environment, the regulatory and system settings that impact on firm growth and innovation, as well as determining the impacts and opportunities for the business environment from labour market, immigration and employment reforms (that the team also advises on). In this role, there will also be opportunities to work across other policy matters the team is responsible for. The Skills, Employment and Enterprise team has a working structure that encourages team members to get involved in the wide range of policy issues we advise on.

What we are looking for:

An understanding of economic development and the business environment would be an advantage. However, we are interested in candidates from a broad range of backgrounds. If you understand how to use your communication, leadership, relationship and analytical skills to get traction on complex policy problems, then we would like to hear from you.

For appointment at the senior level, candidates will have at least 5 years' policy or analytical experience, and experience working in or with central government.

We can offer:

  • Interesting and stimulating work across a diverse range of areas, with opportunities to improve living standards for New Zealanders.
  • A commitment to providing work and training opportunities that support your development and career aspirations.
  • The opportunity to work in a supportive and high-performing team that is focused on development, constructive debate and collective impact.

Secondments from other government agencies will be considered and please talk to us about flexible work options.

Applications close - 27 January 2019. All applications must be made online.
