The purpose of the role

We currently have an exciting fixed term opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to join one of the delivery teams within our Enterprise Portfolio Office. This will involve managing medium to large priority projects reporting to an Investment Delivery Manager and a Project Governance Board.

As a Project Manager you will be accountable for enabling and assisting your stakeholders to clarify, develop, and implement their business capability needs and objectives. You will work collaboratively with business and internal and external suppliers to identify viable, cost-effective enterprise solutions that contribute to Statistics NZ's strategic direction.

In this role, you will: 

  • Manage full project lifecycle from concept through to implementation and post-implementation review.
  • Manage a team of multi-disciplined, cross location, people to deliver required outputs
  • Ensure successful end-to-end delivery of projects, within the agreed time, cost and quality parameters.
  • Coach and lead your team and business subject matter experts in project management practices and disciplines.
  • Take a leadership role in managing stakeholder and project relationships.
  • Actively participate in the project management centre of excellence to ensure consistently high standards of project management practice across EPO
  • Communicate effectively across a broad range of audiences

Person specifications

We are looking for a motivated individual with:

  • Minimum four years' experience leading projects of increasing risk and complexity.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery.
  • Significant experience in stakeholder management - including at the executive level.
  • A good tertiary academic record with a degree in a relevant discipline.  Certification in MSP, PRINCE2 or similar.
  • Great people skills who can work well with others.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to translate customer needs or requirements into practical initiatives to improve services or develop new services
